In the middle chapters of the book of Hosea we see God is taking the Northern Kingdom of Israel to court and they stand accused of idolatry, adultery, and unfaithfulness. The case defendants are named, the case is laid out, and the sentence i pronounced: Israel will be disciplined by the evading enemy of Assyria- the Judge has spoken. In the midst of this courtroom drama another theme is developed- the theme of Israel’s complicated and broken relationship to God. Though this word today we will be challenged to examine our relationship with the Lord and ask ourselves how our connection to Him might best be described.
