A Lesson from Nineveh

There is a truth revealed in the book of Nahum that we need to hear today- a truth that is both an encouragement and a warning.  The truth is this: There is salvation and blessing for those who repent and follow God, but judgement and wrath will sure come to those who do not.  Listen here as we unpack this truth and more as we explore the prophecy of Nahum.

    The Call to Provide

    the-call-to-provide

We learned last week that the Call of Christmas was first a call to Prepare- prepare the way of the Lord into the lives of others.  This week we'll examine another aspect of the Call of Christmas; it's also a call to Provide.  As Gabriel came to Mary and told her of God's plans she was called upon to provide herself to the Lord for His use- she was called to provide a space inside her life for the Lord to fill- and she was called to provide her trust.  She was told that if she provided these things she would see incredible things.  Will you here the Call to Provide this Christmas as well?

There were 4 angelic visitations that preceded the arrival of the Messiah in the manger of Bethlehem- 4 messages delivered- 4 calls to men that lead up to the birth of the Savior.  The first message was to Zechariah, and it was a call to Prepare.  Just as Zechariah was called to prepare the way for the Lord so are we called today to prepare the way of the returning Lord... but how do we do that? Listen here to learn more.

The answers God gave to Israel through Joel are still relevant to us.  Listen hear to learn what God has said.

    God’s Amazing Love

In the past weeks as we’ve looked at the book of Hosea what we have seen on display there is the Amazing Love of God! In the closing chapters of the book we find that it seems the Israelites have forgotten about that love and they are refusing to return to the Lord, so God offers them some help in remembering.  We would be wise to take this opportunity today to remember as well- remember the Amazing Love of God and respond to Him in kind!

While there are many ways people use the Bible today not all of them are appropriate ways or even helpful.  In the parable of the Sower which Jesus tells in Luke 8 He likens the Word of God to a seed and we are called to be sowers of that seed in the hearts of men.  As part of our vision to grow in the ministry of encouragement we want to declare today the beginning of the Sowing Season- sowing seeds of God’s word in the hearts of men to encourage them.  List here to find out more.

    What’s Your Relationship Status?

    relationship-status

In the middle chapters of the book of Hosea we see God is taking the Northern Kingdom of Israel to court and they stand accused of idolatry, adultery, and unfaithfulness.  The case defendants are named, the case is laid out, and the sentence i pronounced: Israel will be disciplined by the evading enemy of Assyria- the Judge has spoken.  In the midst of this courtroom drama another theme is developed- the theme of Israel's complicated and broken relationship to God.  Though this word today we will be challenged to examine our relationship with the Lord and ask ourselves how our connection to Him might best be described.

    He married a What?!

    amazed

Hosea, had much in common with the Major Prophets in Judah; men like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel.  And like them, Hosea was called to preach "action sermons" where the peculiar behavior that God called him to would preach a message to God's people.  The action sermon Hosea was called to, however, was much more difficult that anything any other prophet was called to.  What did God call Hosea to do? What does it teach us about the Lord? Listen here to find out.

    Self-Examination

    self-examination

In our passage this week Paul gives a command to the Corinthian church- “Examine yourselves”.  What does this really mean, though? And is it something we do once or is a new habit to be learned? Why should I practice self-examination and where do I find a proper standard to use in my evaluation? What kinds of questions should I ask myself?  There questions and more are answered in our discussion this morning form 2 Corinthians 13.
